Job Description

General Position Summary:

The Alternative Depositary Oversight Team performs the depositary functions for Alternative Investment Funds, in particular investing in Private Equity, Real Estate, Private Debt assets as well as funds of these funds. The Alternative Depositary Oversight Officer will act as deputy to the team leader representing the ADO team internally and towards clients,

  • assisting in the analysis of regulated and unregulated private equity, real estate and other alternative structures and assessment of legal/financial documentation required to fulfill depositary duties,
  • monitoring AIFs under State Street’s depositary oversight in compliance with internal procedures and with legal and regulatory requirements.

The Alternative Depositary Oversight Officer works closely with senior management as well as colleagues from the legal and operations department and other State Street offices.

Specific Duties:

  • Analyzing private equity, real estate, private debt, fund of funds and other alternative structures introduced by clients/prospects
  • Presenting depositary services to potential clients and internal parties
  • Taking part in the determination and assessment of relevant legal documentation on multi-domicile alternative structures such as private placement memoranda, share purchase agreements, corporate and financing documents, title deeds and similar
  • Reviewing and amending internal procedures and guiding team members on queries regarding day-to-day operations
  • Involvement in sales activities, managing client relationships from the depositary point of view and being the point of contact for operational questions in case of escalations or prospects
  • Monitoring and taking care of the day-to-day operations of the depositary and following up with third parties, including administrator and fund managers
  • Participating in performing due diligence on third parties and clients (AIFMs)
  • Determining and assessing relevant information on alternative structures relating to transactions and cash flows
  • Ensuring implementation of and compliance with relevant internal procedures

Education, skills and Experience
Degree in law, economy or finance

Working experience:
Minimum of 3 to 5 years professional experience in the alternative investment fund industry; ideally in a depositary bank or an audit firm with focus on private equity, real estate and other alternative structures (e.g. private debt and fund of funds structures). An in-depth knowledge of such structures and related processes and documentation is essential.

Non-technical competencies:

  • Ability to analyze a situation and obtain information to reach sound conclusions
  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Service-oriented and results-focused
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Good team player

Language skills:
English and either French or German (fluent, spoken and in writing)

Other languages are an advantage
