Senior VAT Compliance Officer

Client focused – full time - Luxembourg

Job Purpose:

The Senior VAT Compliance Officer is responsible for the timely and correct handling of matters concerning either the day-today tax compliance requirements of the clients, including correspondence and other communication with clients, third parties and TMF teams.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or University degree) in accounting, finance or tax. A specialization in taxation is an advantage 
  • Chartered accountant is an advantage
  • Excellent understanding of accounting and legal environment is necessary
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication is required. Knowledge of German, French or Luxembourgish would be an advantage.
  • Good IT skills and excellent command of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) are necessary
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in indirect tax compliance in Luxembourg or another EU member state, preferably in an international environment; understanding of Luxembourg tax structures will be an advantage
  • Excellent understanding of the Luxembourg indirect taxes and the recent changes occurred in the legislation
  • Cycle A diploma or corresponding diploma (or the commitment to get it) is necessary

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting client servicing teams in their everyday work
  • Liaise with the tax authorities, external advisors and clients
  • Take ownership of own development by following required and relevant trainings
  • Take part in development of the Assistant Officers and Officers by providing relevant trainings
  • Take ownership of non-complex client files and gain ownership of complex client files
  • Supporting the Manager in day-to-day planning, operation and problem solving of the team
  • Proactive involvement in the development of the department regarding indirect tax compliance business (preparation of fee proposals, involvement in the preparation of service-agreements and development of tools, procedures and supporting documents)
  • Optimize client follow up, time management and processes and plan the work with Manager
  • Maintain and ensure the high quality of services and communication
  • Anticipate client needs by performing tax analysis and developing strong technical research capabilities
  • Monitor the delivery progress of the work prepared with the Manager
  • Follow-up invoices to clients and collecting debts
  • Delegating client work to Assistant Officers and Officers, monitoring and ensuring their professional development by providing constant feedback
  • Guiding, coaching and supervising new or less experienced team members
  • Excellent understanding of accounting, tax and legal documents
  • Manage problems or complex technical matters reported by the team members
  • Meet own chargeability target and ensure it is met by Assistant Officers and Officers
  • Execute all the necessary to have TMF Group and clients perform according to Compliance and AML rules
  • Work closely and effectively with the teams
  • Adhere to internal policies and procedures
  • Supervise the preparation and perform the review of VAT returns
  • Supervise the preparation and perform the review of the European Sales Lists and Instrastats reports
  • Responsible for VAT registration and deregistration of clients
  • Responsible for the VAT fillings of the clients
  • Supervise the review of VAT assessments
  • Supervise the preparation and perform the review of VAT related correspondence
  • Anticipate and solve potential VAT impacts of transactions and indicate where a tax advisor involvement is needed
